Between the 12th and 19th of January 2008 INCORE held a residential in Amman, Jordan which examined the issue of ‘dealing with the past’ and saw international representation from Sri Lanka, Israel/Palestine and South Africa. A full report of this residential will be available her eshortly.

While Sri Lanka and Israel/Palestine still suffer from ongoing violent conflict, various strategies in those countries to ‘deal with the past’ are already being sought, such as a healing and reconciliation process employed amongst war affected women in Sri Lanka. In Israel/Palestine, Parents Circle unites families from both sides of the conflict to share their grief and further the reconciliation process. South Africa has employed a Truth and Reconciliation Commission as part of their reconciliation in the aftermath of the anti-apartheid struggle, although this is just one part of the process involved in that country to deal with the past.

Subsequent to the January 2008 presentations, the following web pages (containing links to articles and websites) have been designed to signpost Journeys Out participants, and others interested, to resources on how these three countries are dealing with the legacy of a violent past.
