The Global IDP Project
This project by the Norwegian Refugee Council monitors crisis around the world, which involve internally displaced people. The Ugandan section provides information on causes and background of displacement, physical other useful facts. The site also lists recent reports, maps, interesting links etc.

The International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS): the Armed Conflict Database
The IISS is a leading authority on political-military conflict. It provides up-to-date and objective information on conflict-related matters around the world in the Armed Conflict Database. Note that a subscription is needed to access the Database, however Uganda is currently featured for free access.

Uganda Conflict Action Network
Supported by the DC-based African Faith and Justice Institute, Uganda-CAN provides comprehensive information on the history of the conflict as well as current news articles. Its main focus is on international advocacy work to raise awareness, especially in the US government, to bring about a peaceful solution to the conflict.

Ugandan Human Rights Commission (UHRC)
The Ugandan Human Rights Commission is a governmental human rights monitoring agency. The UHRC website (www.uhrc.org) was not working at the time of writing; however, the International Labour Organisation provided a concise summary of the Commissions origins and work at the following address.

The Ugandan NGO Database
Funded by the World Bank, this database contains a list of non-governmental organisations operating in each district, and a general e-mail with which to contact them. While the lists are not exhaustive, it focuses on indigenous organisations and provides a brief summary for each, on the focus of each organisation.

Kacoke Madit
A local non-governmental organisation working in the north of Uganda, Kacoke Madit works with the local chiefs and religious leaders, as well as with the Gulu-based Mega FM, to raise awareness and promote non-violent, non-military solutions to the conflict. Institute for Security Studies (ISS): Situation Report
ISS has produced numerous reports on the conflict in the north, including the more recent report: From a Forgotten War to an unforgivable crisis – the war against children (December 2005). The ISS also provides a number of other research materials and peace efforts documents for Uganda and its intermittent security issues with its neighbouring countries, including the Sudan, DRC and Rwanda.
