New York Times—Bosnia: Uncertain Paths to Peace A photojournalism project that chronicled Bosnia's struggle for peace. Although the project was undertaken in 1996, the “interactive photo essay” and “resources for context” links are particularly useful.

U.S. Department of State, Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs - Bosnia and Herzegovina Provides recent “highlights” from the area as well as links to general background notes about Bosnia from source such as the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) World Factbook and the U.S. Department of State Consular Information Sheets. The latter is particularly relevant to persons wanting to travel to Bosnia. European Union (EU) - Stability Pact for South Eastern Europe (SCSP) The Stability Pact for South Eastern Europe was adopted in Cologne in 1999. More than 40 partner countries and organizations agreed to work to “foster peace, democracy, respect for human rights and economic prosperity,” which would eventually lead to regional stability. The website offers background and constituent documents of the Stability Pact, as well as links to various “Working Tables” of different regional initiatives. North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) - Implementation Force (IFOR)/Operation Joint Endeavor The original NATO peacekeeping mission created under the Dayton Accord. IFOR was only in effect for one year, December 20, 1995-1996, before its duties were transferred to the Stabilization Force (SFOR). The website does provide some information about Bosnia. Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina Provides information about OSCE activities in Bosnia, including: human rights, education, democratization, security cooperation, and public administration reform. United Nations Protection Force (UNPROFOR) Although UNMIBH’s mandate ended on December 31, 2002, the mission did exercise a wide range of functions primarily relating to law enforcement and police reform. The Mission also coordinated several other UN activities. The Bosnian Institute A great source that offers a wealth of information about Bosnia. Freedom House—Freedom In the World Report 2003, Bosnia The report provides valuable information on political rights and civil liberties in Bosnia. Also has an archive of reports from previous years. University of Maryland, Center for International Development and Conflict Management—Minorities at Risk (MAR), Minority Group Assessment for Post-Communist States MAR tracks “politically-active ethnic groups throughout the world, identifying where they are, what they do, and what happens to them.” The “Minority Group Assessment for Post-Communist States” details all Balkan countries, including Bosnia. Articles, Papers, Reports, AgreementsCommission of the European CommunitiesReport from the Commission to the Council on the preparedness of Bosnia and Herzegovina to negotiate a Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) with European Union. Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper (PRSP) in Bosnia and Herzegovina –PRSP in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The PRSP is meant to determine the principal medium-term economic development priorities for Bosnia, as well as to identify the most effective solutions for combating poverty in the country. The three priorities that have been drawn from the PRSP are: raising employment levels by strengthening the private sector and reducing public expenditure; establishing a sustainable social security system; European Union membership. UNDP Human Development Report/Millennium Development Goals—Bosnia and Herzegovina, 2003 Discusses Bosnia’s position in terms of the UN’s Millennium Goals for 2015. Major themes include: poverty reduction, good governance, civil society, democracy, and human rights, gender, environment, health, education, and international cooperation.
