‘Restoring
Justice: A Challenge for Northern Ireland’
On 16th March 2004, WAVE Trauma Centre, in collaboration with INCORE
(University of Ulster) held a one-day conference on the issue of Justice.
WAVE
is an organisation, which provides care and support for people who
have been bereaved, injured or traumatised as a result of the ‘troubles’
in Northern Ireland. For many members of WAVE the issue of justice
remains a concept for the future rather than a present reality.
‘Restoring
Justice: A Challenge for Northern Ireland’ examined
how sections of the community perceive the term justice and
what the justice issues are for communities in the transition
to peace. It focused on different perspectives of justice
and explored how some communities have responded to this
issue with the development of community based restorative
models.
