As part of Community Relations Week 2007, INCORE organised a Student Public Speaking Competition on Diversity which was held on May 3rd at 1000 am at Magee Campus.
Students aged 15-18 years in the Derry City Council area submitted their speeches addressing the following topic:
The people in Northern Ireland have failed to embrace the growing diversity in their society.
A panel of judges picked the top entries who performed at the final event on 3rd May where the students were judged on the content of their speech as well as their delivery. First prize was £500 and second prize was £200. The essays and performances were of a very high standard which made for a very close competition. Aoife McNicholl won first prize and Emmett McCallion won second prize. Runners-up, Shauna Kavanagh and Stephanie Lindsay also received a small gift.
INCORE is grateful to Public Affairs, University of Ulster who sponsored this event.
