Northern Ireland as in other parts of the UK, has been experiencing increased immigration of people from Eastern Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Africa and elsewhere. Most native born people have welcomed the new arrivals. However, others have responded with bias, harassment and violence. Immigrants are not the only group to experience bias, harassment and hate crimes. Members of the Traveller, Jewish, gay and lesbian community have also been targeted with hate.

In order to help these groups build capacity and develop the skills required to deal with bias and harassment, INCORE, in collaboration with the Center for the Prevention of Hate Violence (CPHV), organised three Ending Hate in our Communities training residentials in March 2007 February 2008 and September 2008 to prepare two-person teams to conduct hate crime prevention workshops in their own communities. There were a total of 66 participants which consisted of community practitioners and district council community relations officers from many NI districts. As a result we now have community practitioners and community relations officers throughout NI fully trained up to carry out a 3-hour 'Ending Hate in our Communities' training workshop.
